Anusara Affiliated Teachers

608-257-1003Barbara has been teaching yoga in Madison since 1994. In January, 2002, she was introduced to Anusara Yoga through Todd Norian's Teacher Training. In April of that same year she met John Friend, and has been teaching Anusara principles ever since. Her teaching interweaves the descriptive biomechanical alignment principles with poetic heart language to encourage energetic expression in every pose. Transformed in her own practice by the Tantric philosophy of Anusara Yoga, she hopes to inspire others to look for the good in all things, and to open to their fullest potential.
Iris is an affiliated Anusara teacher and is also certified in Kripalu yoga and a licensed bodyworker. She brings with her an extensive background in rehabilitation and is dedicated to helping people empower themselves through Anusara Yoga. Find out more about her at www.synergybodyworks.com
Anusara Inspired Teachers
Sarah Jane Higgins BS Kinesiology
MindBodySoul LLC
608-274-9025I have a deep desire to share what I have learned to help others find more freedom within their bodies and minds. My classes are a blend of my own journey... creative, sweet, playful, exciting and chock full of reality. When students leave class with an inner light shining through their eyes, and a smile on their face, the path becomes brighter for everyone. As an Anusara Inspired teacher I creatively use the knowledge I learn from John Friend, the founder of Anusara, and from Certified Anusara Instructors I study with. Offering from my heart, I freely share the fruits of my studies. In addition to expanding my teaching around Madison, I offer private space in my home studio for personal instruction or small groups.
Joyful Journey Yoga, LLC
608 - 836 - 3338Like journaling with the body, yoga can help people feel more connected to themselves, to others, and to possibilities. I discovered this for myself when I came to Anusara seeking physical healing and found a joy, a freedom, and a path of deep, lasting growth. My passion is to share these gifts of yoga with others. I strive to create friendly and hospitable spaces where students of all levels can find the comfort and inspiration of yoga to assist them on their diverse paths of life. I offer both class, small-group, individual instruction, and teen yoga at the venues listed on the calendar and in my beautiful and serene home studio.
I have been practicing yoga for eight years and teaching for six. I am blessed beyond words that I found yoga when and where I did. My initial training was done with At One Yoga in Phoenix/Scottsdale from 2000-2002 when it housed amazing teachers, including master Anusara teachers. I am now a Yoga Alliance ERYT, which means I have taught over 1000 hours, and an “Anusara-Inspired” teacher, which means I’ve got the goods. My education continues constantly, through yoga and in all my experiences. I am currently working towards a doctorate in physical therapy. In class I practice many different approaches, from restorative to power flow, but always with a solid foundation in optimal physical alignment. Time for meditation is always provided, because simply it is the one thing that you can do right now (go do it!) to improve your experience. By the way, quieting the mind is a practice like anything else, the more you do it, the easier it gets. It is about lining up actions with intentions. I also work with Custom Kinetics System Golf School, which uses advanced custom kinetics to improve golf swing mechanics. My contribution is to strengthen the gross alignment of the body as well as to help to quiet the mind. Such mental mastery is necessary to be successful at golf.
Keith and I also provide on-site yoga delivery for private and group sessions. We can bring yoga to you to make it easier for you to get what you need. The only lack in your life that you ever need to address is the lack of awareness that you are already complete and perfect. Come play with me.
Students have described me as encouraging and humorous with a “relaxed awareness.” My yoga journey began in the late 90’s while living in the Phoenix area. I am honored to come from a fantastic lineage of teachers including (but not limited to): Jordan and Martin Kirk, Desiree Rumbaugh and Kat Meyers from the Anusara community, Jeff Martens – a Superhero of a Vinyasa/Power Flow instructor and phenomenal storyteller; and Ashtanga Guru Dave Oliver. My initial 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training certification was completed through At One Yoga studios in Phoenix/Scottsdale Arizona; I am also currently an “Ansuara-Inspired” teacher. My classes are fun yet challenging and range from easy-going restorative yin yoga to more advanced vinyasa flow. Every class promises abdominal strengthening, meditation and a nice long Savasana. I hope to see you soon!

Alex's teaching focuses heavily on Alignment, Breath, Action, & Attitude to target full detoxification of the body (physically, emotionally, & mentally). The result is a class meant to push one's spiritual edge from struggle to ease; from intensity to peace; and from madness to clarity. "The trick," he says, "is to eliminate the blocks that keep one's body from its alignment with Nature. From there comes action without stress which heals even ailments such as the bulging discs I once had. Align with Nature and there is great flow."
Alex spends his life practicing the
transformative, balancing,
and healing modalities of Yoga,
Yoga / Thai Therapy & structurally integrative bodywork. All walks of life from NCAA Champion Athletes, to spiritual practitioners, professional actors & musicians, to
grocery workers have enlisted his help in finding balance and healing.
He teaches the bulk of his public yoga classes at Inner
Fire Yoga Studio and is an active student of Anusara
Yoga, Kashmir Shaivism & Spontaneous Partner Dance. Much more
